AIS information supplements marine radar, which continues to be the primary method of collision prevention for water transport.
Information provided by AIS includes GPS position, course, speed, vessel size and type, closest point of arrival to vessel and time to vessel. The data will also include the vessel’s name and if the vessel is underway or anchored.
